Alex Bristow on cloud nine after win at FCC 1

Alex Bristow

The Fight Lounge caught up with UK heavyweight Alex Bristow after his win over Luke Taylor at Full Contact Contender – 1 this past weekend at the TA Centre in Bury, Lancashire.
Alex defeated Luke via unanimous decision after using his wrestling to control the fight on the ground and keep Luke from standing and where he is most dangerous.

“I’m on cloud 9 right now!” Bristow told us, “I picked up a good win and now I’m giving my first interview. I think the fight played out how I expected it to. I was confident about getting the win and I executed the game plan.”

“Yeah, he did catch me with a good right in the third round but I remember everything. Having watched his previous fight I expected him to follow up with a barrage of shots, but I managed to work another take down on him.”

Alex’s wrestling was the difference in the fight and helped him keep total control. Many in attendance thought Alex kept Luke down pretty easily and always looked comfortable on the ground; but Alex feels different.

“The game-plan was to take him down and wear him out, so I think I did that pretty well. I didn’t find it easy at all! He worked getting back to his feet, so I had to keep taking him down again.”

We asked Alex how his training went, running up to the fight and, now the fight is over and he got the win, how he feels.

“I can’t think of anything specifically that I’d have changed, no doubt my coaches will find room for improvement though.” Bristow continued, “Training went brilliantly; I’ve got some fantastic coaches and some brilliant sparring partners that push me.
I had an injury free training camp and I’d like to thank Paul Martin of Restore Sports Massage for looking after me and keeping me in shape for the fight.”

The fight between Alex Bristow and Luke Taylor headlined Full Contact Contender. What did it feel like to be a part of the main-event?

“Yeah it was a great show. Main event for the first time was really cool and I hope that I put on a main-event level performance for the crowd. Now I’m going to take a week off, keep ticking over until the New Year, then see what comes up in 2012. I’m just getting started here!”

“Thanks to Dan Korbely, Shaun Cheadle and Eugene Fadiora for cornering me. Thanks to all of my coaches and everyone
at the Pure MMA family, everyone who came to support me on the show and of course The Fight Lounge for interviewing me!”
