Earlier today we reported that Jacob Volkmann had been released from the UFC. It appears he is not the only one to be let go from the roster today as they promotion have also let Aaron Simpson go.

Whereas Volkmann was cut from the promotion, they simply decided not to renew the contract of Simpson.

Simpson (12-4-0) is released from the company after and eleven fight spell that saw him knocked out in his most recent fight last August at the hands of Mike Pierce. He won ‘of the night’ honours on two occasions in the promotion and leaves with a UFC record of 7-4-0.

It is expected that a lot more fighters will be released from the promotion over the coming months and here is why. At Present the UFC currently holds around 33 events a year and each event stages 12 fights which means 24 fighters per card. This requires a roster of around 260 fighters.

The UFC have to be able to give each fighter a certain amount of fights per year or else they could be in breach of contract and open to legal action.

Their current roster is around the 400 fighters mark so the injury bug which continues to strike could actually be helping the UFC fulfil contractual obligations.

The roster is also set to get even more names added to it as Dana White stated all fighters from the current season of The Ultimate Fighter will receive a contract with the promotion.
