Caldwell ready for Musoke and other challenges
Dean Caldwell is preparing to take on Niko Musoke for the On Top Welterweight title this weekend and he cannot wait.
His career began with a 3 fight winning streak including a win over Antony Mcillroy at Cage Wars Scotland 5. He returned to the cage in May 2011 after a 4 year hiatus. Caldwell took the win over previously undefeated Colin “Freakshow” Fletcher (8-1) in the second round by TKO. This was followed by a win over highly experienced Marty Loic (13-13) by rear naked choke in the opening round.
Caldwell is looking forward to the fight, but isn’t underestimating Champion Musoke.
“Preparations have gone well just looking forward 2 the big night now. I feel Musoke is extremely well rounded, I’m happy wherever the fight needs to go.”
Caldwell is fast becoming one of Scotland’s top welterweights, with Steven Ray dropping to lightweight; Alan Johnson is his closest rival for the title of Scotland’s top welterweight.
Scottish fans would be in for a treat if this fight took place, and Caldwell wouldn’t rule out a future meeting with Johnson.
“I suppose it’s a fight that will probably happen eventually, but I’m always just focusing on the task in front of me. What happens next will be down to what my management feel is the best direction for me.”
Dean considers himself lucky to have the level of support he needs to progress in his career.
“I would like to thank everyone who is coming to support me as without the supporters, there is no show. Also thanks my to sponsors, GS Nutrition, Joe Mitchell Sports Therapist, and Needle & Ink Tattoo Studios, for their continued support, and of course thanks to all the guys at Mataleon MMA and Sweden Fighters Management.”
