A welterweight bout has been confirmed as the headline attraction of UFC On Fox 21 on August 27th in Vancouver, Canada

A 170lbs bout between top five-ranked welterweights Demian Maia and Carlos Condit has been announced by the promotion, which will act as main event for the card which is set to emanate from Rogers Arena in Vancouver

America Condit(30-9) and Brazilian Maia(23-6) were original slated to meet at UFC 202 a week before on August 20th, however the UFC made the decision to push the bout back a week to UFCF On Fox 21 as the Vancouver event was in need of a main event with just over a month to go

Though not a certain thing, it’s expected that if either Condit or Maia score a convincing win the winner will be next in line for a championship bout at 170lbs, and may get the winner of divisional champion Robbie Lawler versus challenger Tyron Woodley, who fight at UFC 201 on July 30th

Maia, thirty eight years old, has been on a career resurgence as of late, and is currently riding a fight undefeated streak, downing prospects such as Neil Magny and Gunnar Nelson along the way, with his most recent victory being a third submission win over Matt Brown last May

The Brazilian is currently ranked 5th in the welterweight division

Former UFC interim welterweight champion Condit, thirty four years old and currently ranked 3rd in the division, is coming off a split decision loss to champion Lawler in his last Octagon outing, and is 2-3 in his last five fights

Already signed for UFC On Fox 21 is a co-main event of Anthony Pettis versus Charles Oliveira at featherweight and two further main card fights of Paige VanZant versus Bec Rawlings in the women’s straw-weight division and Jim Miller taking on Joe Lauzon at lightweight
