Bellator’s return to the UK market will feature a major welterweight bout, as Paul Daley will face Rory MacDonald

Confirmed on Thursday, the welterweight tussle will headline the promotion’s second UK event with the show scheduled for May 19th at the SSE Arena in London

Earlier in the week to had been rumoured that Daley would face fellow British fighter Michael Page, however the promotion has instead decided to go with Daley versus MacDonald

The fight will be MacDonald’s Bellator debut since signing with the organisation back in August last year, while the bout will be Daley’s sixth under the Bellator banner

Thought not confirmed and official, it’s expected that the winner of Daley versus MacDonald will be next in line for a welterweight champion opportunity

Canadian MacDonald, twenty seven years old, is coming off a successful six year UFC tenure, having defeated the likes of BJ Penn, Demian Maia, Nate Diaz and current UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, though the Canadian dropped his last two bouts in the UFC before leaving and signing with Bellator

Thirty three year old Brit Daley was last in action last month in the co-main event of Bellator 170 against Brennan Ward, a fight which Daley won in spectacular fashion by downing Ward via first round flying knee knockout

Bellator made it’s UK live event debut in July 2016, with Bellator 158 held at the o2 Arena in London with a main event of Diego Lima beating Paul Daley via five round unanimous decision, while also on the main card Michael Page defeated Evangelista Santos via second round flying knee knockout
