Bellator’s debut at Madison Square on June 24th has its co-main event, as a major heavyweight bout has been signed for the pay-per-view event

Fedor Emelianenko will take on Matt Mitrione in a heavyweight fight, with the fight now confirmed as co-main event for Bellator 180 on June 24th alongside the already announced main event of Wanderlei Silva versus Chael Sonnen, news of which can be read HERE

Bellator 180 will be the promotion’s Madison Square Garden debut and will air on pay-per-view, the second pay TV event in Bellator history

The rescheduled bout will be the Bellator debut of Emelianenko, while Mitrione has had two fights under the Bellator banner wining both via stoppage within two rounds

The heavyweight fight was originally slated to headline Bellator 172 on February 18th, however the bout had to be cancelled on the day of the event due to Mitrione suffering from kidney stones

American Mitrione, thirty eight years old, holds career wins over the likes of Kimbo Slice, Gabriel Gonzaga and Derrick Lewis en route to a current overall mixed martial arts record of 11-5 since debuting in December 2009

Former undefeated Pride FC heavyweight champion Emelianenko, forty years of age, holds notable career victories over the likes of Mirko Cro Cop, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Semmy Schilt and Andrei Arlovski and holds a current MMA record of 36-4-1NC
