Following a loss in his most recent fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Jacob Volkmann has been released from his contract with the world’s largest organisation.

The news of this release came from Volkmann himself who posted on twitter:

“Was just cut from the UFC today. I want to thank the fans, and say i gave it my all. No regrets.”

After a shaky start in the promotion that saw him lose his opening two bouts, Volkmann (15-4-0) made the drop from welterweight to lightweight. He immediately impressed in his new division and at one point looked to be one of the brightest prospects at 155lbs following a five fight win streak that saw him defeat the likes of Paul Kelly, Danny Castillo and Efrain Escudero.

His winning streak would come to an end when he was submitted by fellow prospect Paul Sass last May. He would return to the win column immediately but would again fall to defeat in his first fight of 2013 when he was defeated by Strikeforce Importee Bobby Green.

During his time in the promotion he was seen as a controversial character who used his time on the big stage to get across his strong political views.

Volkmann leaves the UFC with a record of 6-4-0 in the promotion.
