Following his fantastic win over Jamaine Facey this past weekend, new dual-weight division champion Jake Bostwick is considering defending both of his belts.

Quite possibly the most improved UK mixed martial artist in recent years, Jake “Brutal” Bostwick made another big statement this past Saturday night – knocking out Jamaine Facey in the first round. The fight also marked Bostwick’s first attempt at competing in the 170lb (77kgs) division. It was a tough test, but one he passed with flying colours.

“Brutal” is now on an excellent four-fight winning streak; a streak which saw him defeat Denniston Sutherland on two occasions and take the middleweight belt. With John Maguire moving to the UFC last year, the UCMMA welterweight title was left vacated and Dave O’Donnell promptly booked a match-up between Facey and Bostwick to crown a new champion.

Bostwick took the opportunity with both hands – laying them on Facey’s face to pick up a knockout win.

“I had never trained and put so much dedication into a fight before.” Bostwick told The Fight Lounge. “To lose all the wait, to stick to the diet and still beat up the light heavyweights in the gym; I felt really good and confident.

“I had a big water cut coming into the fight and by the time I got into the cage I was 11 kilos heavier since the weigh-ins. I felt very big compared to Jamaine (Facey).”

Now that he has two UCMMA belts in his collection, will Bostwick vacate one or look to defend both in the near future?

“It all depends what is offered. I feel I have a big advantage at welterweight, but we will have to sit down and have the discussions with my team.

“It feels cool to be the champion in two divisions, but it hasn’t fully sunk in yet. I think on Wednesday, when myself and twenty of my friends are watching the fight on Sky Sports whilst a Domino’s pizza is on the floor, it will begin to sink in. I don’t remember anything of the fight except that I knocked him out. I’m looking forward to watching it back.”

UCMMA seem to be continuously putting out great cards and we are promised that the August event will raise the bar. Will Bostwick be featured on that show?

“I could be fighting in August but it will most likely be in October. My girlfriend is Canadian and I am going over there for a few months to spend some time with her. I will also be working on my wrestling and BJJ non-stop over there.

“I’ve still lots to improve on. People are aware of my hands, yet I feel I still need to improve certain aspects of my striking game too.”

Congratulations to Jake Bostwick. Be sure to keep visiting The Fight Lounge for news of Jake’s fight as soon as we have it.
