Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen will finally fight, as Bellator has announced the two will square off as the headline bout of the pay-per-view event which will emanate from Madison Square Garden

Long-time rivals Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen will fight on June 24th at the legendary venue, which will be the organisation’s debut at Madison Square Garden and the promotion’s second pay-per-view event

Silva and Sonnen had been slated to fight while in the UFC a number of years back, however the fight never materialised despite the two serving as coaches on a season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’, including a brawl between the two while filming the show

Brazilian Silva, forty years of age, is a former long-time Pride Fighting Championships middleweight champion and holds career wins over the likes of Quinton Jackson, Kazushi Sakuraba, Dan Henderson and current UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping

Silva last fought in March 2013 downing Brian Stan via second round knockout and currently holds an overall mixed martial arts record of 35-12-1-1NC

Thirty nine year old is coming of a January loss to Tito Ortiz losing via first round submission and currently holds an overall mixed martial arts record of 29-15-1, while holding victories over the likes of Mauricio Rua, Brian Stann, Michael Bisping and Nate Marquardt
