A light heavyweight bout has been announced between Thiago Silva and former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante that will take place at UFC 162 on July 6th in Las Vegas.

The crazy twist to this fight is that both fighters are coming off no-contests and suspensions.

Silva (14-3-0(2)) is coming off two loses and two no-contests in his last four UFC fights. In his last fight, Silva faced Stanislav Nedkov UFC on Fuel TV 6 back in November 2012 where Silva defeated Nedkov via submission (arm triangle choke). It was later announced that Silva had failed his post-fight drug test, testing positive for marijuana metabolites. Silva was subsequently suspended for six months and the win over Nedkov was changed to a no-contest.

Silva’s last win in the UFC was back in August 2009, when Silva defeated Keith Jardine via KO at UFC 102.

rafael_cavalcante_2Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Feijao (11-3-0(1)) fought Mike Kyle at Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Cormier back in May 2012. He avenged his previous defeat to Kyle, this time by rocking Kyle with a knee and then choked him out with a guillotine choke after just thirty-three seconds in the first round. After the fight Feijao tested positive for the banned substance stanozolol. As a result, the fight was overturned to a no-contest and the Brazilian was suspended for a year.

Feijao’s last win came over Yoel Romero at Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Kharitonov back in September 2011. He will be making his UFC debut when he takes on the former UFC light heavyweight title contender, Thiago Silva.

UFC 162 will take place on July 6th from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and will be headlined with a UFC middleweight title fight between pound-for-pound UFC world middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva and undefeated UFC middleweight Chris Weidman.
