Gilbert Melendez

Following the closure of Strikeforce this past Saturday twenty of their athletes have officially now become UFC fighters it was announced last night on UFC Tonight.

As expected many of the company’s biggest stars are making the journey over to the UFC such as Gilbert Melendez, Daniel Cormier, Gegard Mousasi, Nate Marquardt and Tarec Saffiedine. Also coming over is Ryan Couture, son of the legendary Randy, who will make history when he makes his debut as the Coutures will become the first farther and son ever to compete in the UFC.

One name missing from the list was one of Strikeforces heavyweight stars, Josh Barnett. Although nothing has yet been said totally ruling out Barnett moving over to the UFC, a number of reasons may be behind why he not. One may be because of the huge wage he earns for his fights and another may be because of his history of failed drugs tests, one of which sent a promotion out of business. Barnett also has had rocky relations with the UFC bosses over the years too.
