The scheduled co-main event of tomorrow night’s UFC 209 is officially off, as Khabib Nurmagomedov has been hospitalised due to attempting to cut weight

Nurmagomedov versus Tony Ferguson, which was set for the interim UFC featherweight championship, has been cancelled due to the Russian fighter being hospitalised this morning due to dehydration resulting from the weight-cutting attempt

After being released from hospital the Russian fighter had the opportunity to attempt to make weight however doctors refused to allow him to fight, and the bout was subsequently pulled from UFC 209

It was expected that the winner of Nurmagomedov versus Ferguson would’ve faced featherweight champion-proper Conor McGregor, possibly sometime later this year, to unify the titles

Due to UFC 209 being just 24 hours away, it’s expected that Ferguson will be removed from the card as well and a preliminary bout moved to the main card rather than find a replacement to face Ferguson on 24 hours’ notice

The main event of UFC 209 is still scheduled to be Tyron Woodley defending the UFC welterweight championship against Stephen Thompson in a rematch from their previous but, which ended in a draw
